BECKY’S WEDDING, JULY 2014
Becky’s dress was made primarily from organic bamboo silk.
The dress itself was made with a fully boned bodice and a triple layered skirt. It also had a separate French lace blouse which could be removed.
The lining of the skirt was dip dyed with madder (a plant pigment), giving it a beautifully subtle graduation which shimmered through the bamboo silk and the top layer of silk muslin.
As the skirt was so long at the back we sewed a sneaky button under the waistband with a matching loop in the skirt so it could be hooked up for dancing, revealing the deep red madder.
BECKY WANTED HER DRESS DIP DYED BUT SUBTLY. SHE WAS ALSO INTERESTED IN ME EXPERIMENTING WITH NATURAL DYES
I LOOKED AT MADDER, BOTH ENGLISH AND IRANIAN, SAFFLOWER AND COCHINEAL

ENGLISH MADDER
THE ENGLISH MADDER WAS A LOT DARKER
